My Victor is finally coming together. Hopefully, once the baby has arrived, I'll be able to utilise my paternity leave and get the godforsaken thing finished

I tell you what mate, despite all it's pitfalls, it's actually looking pretty good. I've done it in anti flash white and I've ordered the decals to match

[paint pedant mode]
Info for anyone making the Airfix XH558 [got one yesterday] , the paint number for the grey of the camo is wrong .
It shouldn't be 164 [Dark Sea Grey] it should be 165 [Medium Sea Grey] ;)

Well I have 'parked' the Sentry and Jet Provost for now and have ordered the 1/144 Revell Concorde as the nose can be drooped on this. I will do this in stages as I will get the weighted wheels set and the engine detail set which is for the Revell kit.

Gaz look forward to seeing the Victor and hope all goes well with the baby birth and as an aside I now have a Grand son who I will hopefully get interested in models when he is old enough ;)

I have seen weighted wheels sets offered for the 1/72 Vulcan, but the moulding quality looks worse than the originals.

Is the fact they are "weighted" a significant advantage?

To be quite honest I have never tried them, apparently they look more realistic as an aircraft with its weight on the tyres as against either filing a flat on the bottom or leaving them as supplied. I won't use them if they are not up to scratch. I have to admit I bought the Sentry CFM resin engines as they were supposed to be more accurate, they were not, and they would not even fit also they had no detail like the kit ones had, so sent them back as they had cost more than the model cost.

Oops, silly me, I thought they were heavier. :ymblushing:

If they are simply intended to look as if the aircraft has some weight deflecting the rubber, I won't bother.

I have bought a set of detailed undercarriage bays. The quality isn't brilliant, but they should be an improvement on the ghastly originals. I have looked at better intakes and engines, but they are only in 200 series, so no good to me as I plan to build it as 655.

Some of the detail resin kits are well impressive as are some of the white metal landing gears and the Eduourd etched parts, oh and the after market decals (that is one reason I have parked the Sentry & JP as I need to get the injet make your own decal sheets and acrylic varnish to stop ink running so I can put the correct numbers/paint colour markings on).

The only trouble is, allthough they make superbly detailed models, they can treble the price of the basic model, but then that is half the fun building something that you can admire the work you put in and the realism when on display, especially if you are making one from an old squadron and you buy the right books.

WIP shots of the A-10 , doesn't look quite right [the grey looks a bit too dark and 1 of the greens looks too blue despite being the correct FS codes] but it will do ;)

It will be in the colours of a Bentwaters/Woodbridge aircraft when the gloss varnish drys [put on Friday , still slightly tacky in places due to the weather ~x( ] ;)
