Spitfire MK XVI in 1/48th

This was a limited edition kit for airfix club members only,it's not a bad kit i just wish they would have provided decent decals because these ones were... X( X( X(

the only difference from the colour sheet provided was i used silver on the wing tips a spinner rather than gold. :) :)

the MK XVI was the last merlin engined spit i thnik they went onto the Griffon engine after these ... :)

I always try to slip-in a little bit about
Packards whenever Merlins come up....

Packard's main contributions to Merlin
Development, which RR eagerly adopted,
were in the areas of supercharging and
in making the engines mass-produceable,
more durable and far easier to service.

People tend to forget, but there is a lot
of Packard in ALL Merlins made after they
got involved -- not just the ones produced
in Detroit.

Griffon engine benefitted from this input
as well!
