Classic Flight Night Run Event at AIRBASE, Coventry - 10 Dec

Postby Richw_82 » Mon Nov 21, 2011 3:03 pm

Hi all, I've been asked to give this the widest distribution I can...

Classic Flight Night Run Event at AIRBASE, Coventry
Once again we are proud to offer the chance to see the Classic Flight fleet in action before the end of the season – the now annual Night Run will be taking place at AIRBASE, Coventry on Saturday December 10.

This event is aimed at photographers and enthusiast alike, though places are limited to allow room to get that perfect shot! There will be some aircraft this year which have either never been seen at the night run event before or have been absent for some time.

Classic Flight is hoping the following aircraft will be run on the night:

BAe Nimrod MR2
Avro Shackleton AEW2
Avro Anson T.21
Douglas DC3
Hunting Percival Jet Provost
De Havilland Vampire
De Havilland Venom
De Havilland Dragon Rapide
Gloster Meteor
Percival Prentice

As always, all aircraft taking part in this event appear subject to serviceability, so the running list may change.

Gates open at 1400hrs to allow time to tour the AIRBASE hangar and aircraft, with the runs scheduled to start at 1600hrs. Admission to the event is £25 on the gate; or £20 per adult if booked in advance through our website at - http://www.classicflight.com/EveningEngineRuns

Any queries – please contact AIRBASE on 024 7688 2616

Kind regards

Rich

Many thanks!

I'll be running around trying to keep the Shackleton happy on the night, but if anyone is attending and gets there before 1600, please come over and say hello.

Cheers,

Rich

If you can't spot 963 you need a guide dog! :p

Out the back door of the visitor centre, Canberra to your right, Hunter to the left. Straight ahead... large white twin finned Avro aircraft. Easy!

Well,

As of yesterday the aircraft running order is confirmed, and the positions. As soon as I'm given the go ahead I'll post it. The Meteor involved is going to be the recently restored T7.

I spent last Saturday making sure that the Shackleton was good to run on the 3 engines that have props fitted. First aircraft starts at 1600hrs... hope the weather holds off!!

Regards,

Rich

Good to see Rich there but I didn't get much chance for a chat. I also saw Cluny and Mr and Mrs Sploosher - which was nice ;)

My wireless remote died almost as soon as I got there. Flat battery :(

Thanks Mr West. It was mind numbingly cold. I felt sorry for Cluny standing head and shoulders above the relative warmth of the scrum of photographers but I tell you his vid will be worth watching.. ;)

The ever brilliant Dan Griffith was much in evidence this evening :ymapplause:

Quote:
Dan Griffith began his training in the RAF in 1984 on Jet Provosts, before gaining his pilot wings on the Hawk Mk1 aircraft. He flew operationally on Number 1 Squadron at RAF Wittering and Number 4 Squadron at RAF Gutersloh in Germany, gaining more than 1200 hours on Harrier jets. In 1992 Dan was selected for the USAF Test Pilot course at Edwards Air Force Base in the United States and spent a year there being formally taught to test all kinds of military and civil aircraft. During the course he flew 43 different types of aircraft, including the F15, F16, F18, F4, A10, A7, C5 Galaxy, B52, Mustang, the Goodyear Blimp and many more. In 1996 Dan left the military to take up a prestigious test pilot job with the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority. He also remained a consultant to the British Military Research organisations working on Eurofighter, un-manned Combat Air Vehicles, fighter aircraft control law development and other military projects. As an active member of the warbird community since 1993, Dan has displayed many different types of aeroplane, including the Spitfire, Hurricane, Avenger, Hunter, Canberra, Sopwith Pup, Vampire, Venom, Meteor and Sea Vixen to list just a few.

Edit: It is thanks to the tireless efforts of these 'Classic' pilots, and especially the restorers of these 'Classic' aircraft, that thousands of people, like me, can pursue our chosen hobby. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Awesome photo's. Sorry I didn't get more time to chat; WR963 kept me very busy.

Did anybody get a shot of the priming fire on No 1 engine right at the end? :ymblushing:
