I heard the other day that one of the problems was with the army moving in there will be no-one to maintain the runway and the army certainly wouldn't want to pay for the upkeep. No idea how much truth there is in that tho' I guess on the surface it sounds plausible.

Surely the MOD would maintain the runway to facilitate deployment in time of need!
