Duxford Incident!!!

Postby Mayfly » Sun Jul 10, 2011 6:18 pm

Anyone know anything about this?

http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Home/BREAKING-NEWS-Mid-air-incident-at-museum-air-show-10072011.htm

I have read on FC the pilot of Big bBeautiful Doll bailed out and the Skyraider has a chunk of wing missing

Good reason not to stand in fields tho' evidently this happened a little way from the airfield!!

The COLLISION happened at the end of the BALBO and was during the break, not sure quite how you pick which field NOT to STAND in as it didn't crash in to the "NAUGHTY" field! :-o

I know it didn't I said as much, my meaning is as spectator you are to a certain extent protected by display lines and distances, standing the other side of the live side you are not!

Any way shame about BBD but pleased the pilots are OK

I've seen a pic of BBD in the cornfield - someone said they can rebuild it but there didn't look to be a lot left to rebuild!

I think she was many peoples favourite.

I only just found out about this when i got home. I heard a lot of sirens but didnt see anything else as I was in the car just heading out at that point. I saw the aircraft go past from the car but then nothing else.

Glad the Skyraider made it back ok but RIP BBD :(

Lee B has the aftermath (bail out etc) on video. I suspect he'll post it during the week.

The Fokker Triplane suffered a ground loop on landing and ended up on its nose earlier in the day :( .

This was about as much as I saw of the Triplane...

Commentators were saying though that after it was put back on its wheels how remarkably little damage there was, even the prop looked fine.

I was at Duxford today. There was another incident too. I was watching a Skyraider coming in to display and then suddenly pulling upwards violently to avoid two Spitfires on base leg to land. I was so surprised I actually swore out loud. The Skyraider was then instructed to land immediately. I have been going to airshows for nearly 30 years and it was the closest thing I have seen to to a mid air.

Looks to me like the Skyraider took the S'board wing tip off BBD with its tail plane. Which sort of conflicts with the initial UKAR report of events. Am I wrong???? :ymblushing:

If the BBMF can do it with LF363 :D

I'm glad both pilots are ok.

Been a pretty bad week for aviation hasn't it :(

I don't know if this has been posted here.

The Skyraider doesn't look too happy either. The pilot did a great job getting her down safely.

The speed differential looked like a contributory factor. Did BBD lose power?

Another miracle (if you can call it that) there appears to have been NO fire from the crash (although I stand to be corrected).
