Apaches at Dawn.

It was such a good forecast yesterday I went to sunny Brize Norton.

Apache overshoot. With prop blur.

And without

It may even have been a different Apache.

Then this Turkish Airbus A300 of MNG Airlines turned up.

For the next two hours nothing happened so I left.

It WAS a different Cab, the first picture has good blade blur but the second picture is sharper!

Nice shots though!

Thanks Dave, as you say they are different aircraft as I can now see from their serials - having zoomed in on the original images..

Thanks also for the quality feedback and you are so right. Apache #1 was an experiment in seeing how slow I could set the shutter to get real prop blur - and hopefully keep the subject pin sharp. Your eyesight is better than mine and I have to rely on autofocus, as I have severe astigmatism in my right eye. This also means that all the photos on my monitor look ( to me ) slightly blurred and I rely on feedback to determine whether I got it right , or not.
Apache #2 was captured using the 'Fast moving' auto programme on the Canon 450D ( The running man symbol ).

For the interest of Canon users the image properties are:

Photo Apache #1 Shutter speed .. 1/80th sec. @ F16. ISO 200. 184mm zoom FL.

Photo Apache #2 Shutter speed .. 1/1600th sec. @ F6.3. ISO 400. 200mm zoom FL.

I hope this was of interest?

Ian ;)

Yes Ian very much so, thank you!

I am always interested to see what settings other Canon users are trying!

I use "TV" mode with a shutter speed of 1/320 on helicopters and props, have you tried that setting? I find it gives a little prop blur but you still get a very sharp body.

Not a great example (and sorry it's not an Apache!) but this is TV mode 1/320
