They were in talks I believe with 3M about using their product on the bay doors - the big issue was finding some thing that would stay there during display, that's the supposed reason the bomb bay door names were never put on there.

So maybe a test run - funded by some self-advertising? :)

As we know the ENGINEERING and AIRCREW parts of the set up seem to work just fine, perhaps 3M are helping with the other parts of the operation!!!!!! ;)

I'm going to be brave an stick my neck out here :-S :-SS ..............was it just me or did 558's display look a little tame this weekend? It was certainly different from what Waddo & Goodwood saw, although I presume that was because they didn't have the take-off/landing we were treated to?

I'm not in anyway moaning about it, just a little suprised as I'd heard the displays were to be a bit more 'agressive' this year. I was slightly reserved when I heard this though as I suspect they need as much time as is possible to remain in the airframe after every outing?

I didn't like to say anything, but i was disappointed with 558's display. I was a bit miffed that we didn't get the dirty flypast with the power climb finale after seeing the videos of previous displays. I presumed there was a technical reason for it. Always good to see her fly though.

Perhaps the dirty pass is for venues where she doesn't land? - but it wasn't a patch on Waddingtons display

There seems to be a lot of confusion over an orange sticker on the bomb-bay door of the Vulcan. I am now going to tell you what is happening. I work for 3M and we put a test sticker on the Vulcan's bomb-bay doors up at RAF Lyneham to test and prove that our stickers (or by the proper name "decals") would stick to the bomb-bay doors of the Vulcan. Once this was approved we arranged to get two "test" decals manufactured through the help of the CAA, Marshall Aerospace and the VTTST. We have worked so hard to achieve this. It now means that the Vulcan Bomber can now advertise companies and products on it's bomb-bay doors which will safe-guard the Vulcan's future. We did not have this facility before and now we can look forward to a sponsor to support our aircraft. I would like to let you know that my company did not charge for this as my colleague is an ardent Vulcan fanatic ! So as you see the bomb-bay doors open, you will see a 3M decal and Vulcan To The Sky Club decal on the bomb-bay doors !
My work is so excited about this project that I have been warned it will go to MD level !
I would like some photographs of the 3M logo to put into our company magazine.
Any helpers?
Regards, Graeme. (Special Event Radio Station)

Thanks for posting that Wedgy, I wonder if they will ever do the decent thing about the sponsors names and also wonder how the "RULES" have changed about carrying comercial sponsorship? I seem to recall that the Lottery Heritage Fund had made that a no no!

I believe the no no was for the external surface of the a/c the bomb bay doesn't count!!

Some superb pics there! :D

Agree 558's performance seemed more "gentle" than last year (first I've seen of her this year) - it was very graceful though! :)

Personally I think the term 'display' for 558 is incorrect - I believe they 'present' her to the crowd rather than display her
