Whatever it will make a lot of people happy to see her there.

I did a couple of shows there last year, the spring and autumn ones. Attendances were pretty poor and the quality of the line ups were pretty crap too. I reckon it's simply to boost attendance.

Now I have no idea what a NATIONAL museum is, Duxford -Cosford - Hendon? - they all have a Vulcan [not to mention how would 558 get into most of them unless they cut the wings off] and why would they want 2. To be honest I can't see that the HLF can dictate she is to go a specific place unless that place agreed with them before hand.

I was always led to believe Duxford didn't want her, and they are getting rid of unauthentic airframes and lets face whilst it may upset some 558 is not authentic. Yes they can put the instruments back so she looks it but they won't replace 10 miles or whatever it was of mine laying cabling they took out. I do believe they would be allowed under the HLF terms to build their own museum which is what the Ve3 doc is all about.

I would say that museums don't come much more NATIONAL than the Imperial War Museum at Duxford.

Can't see why 558s cockpit layout is a problem, how many aircraft in Duxford does one ever get access to as a punter?? Not many. If they want to do tours they have an original Vulcan available. With a bit of imagination one could have a nice little attraction with two Vulcans set up on a QRA display with genuine kit around and folk in correct uniforms and vehicles. 558 doing the start and taxi bit, Hmm! :D One can dream. As to authentic, she is actually unique and has a history of her own. No civilian organisation ever has before and never will again bring a Vulcan back to flight, thats a story worth the telling.

The main attraction of course would be a the availability of a taxiable Vulcan, that is surely a no brainer for any museum. ;)

I was making 2 points, [obviously not very well]. :))

1st Dr Bob told me a National museum - not Duxford specific, so my interpretation to that means there are other options .....and

2nd I wasn't saying Duxford isn't a National museum but was questioning if Bruntingthorpe could be classed as one.

As for the authenticity of 558 that's down to personal opinion - there are many purists who don't see her as authentic because of her paint scheme alone, that's their right.

I've agree the story of 558 is worth telling - The more a/c saved, even if only in taxiing condition the better as far as I'm concerned.

I know it won't happen but I would love to see 558 & 655 together in the situation you described above the 2 engine variations Hmm! :YMDAYDREAM:

Opinions are like ar*****s everyone has one and a lot of poo comes out too! and purists, ~x( fundementalism God save us from such cobblers!

Don't thing either Brunty or Wellesbourne will qualify as national standard though and I would hate to see 558 consigned to a slow deterioration in a collection that could not keep her as good as we struggled to get her.

Anyway she ain't dead yet so you Vultures keep off our baby.

Would be good to see two mint taxi Vulcans together, maybe we could land at Wellesbourne and do a week-end show with 655, One can dream Pam, one can dream. :D

Will be interesting to compare the two days attendances. I expect Chaos on Saturday and minor disruption on Sunday.

I shall be atop the mound first thing Saturday morning and repelling all boarders...... :D :D :D

If something like the Ve3 project is to go ahead, then why not have it at Wellesbourne and house both noisy Vulcans together \:D/ , now that would be something worth travelling for, and Wellesbourne cant be that far off being in the middle (ish) of the country which would make it best for all Vulcan supporters :ymapplause:

Just the thought of that is making the hairs on the back of my neck tingle, ....... :D

Well, I just watched the WHOLE THING :D

Except I did skip ahead just a little during
the Hercs at the beginning and end....

I will admit, though, I DO like it when they
put the shift lever in "Reverse" :p

It was all good, too!

Thank you for shooting and editing and posting
all of it, because I would NEVER have the
patience you do for such things....

I would also like to say I'm sorry my country
didn't supply more in the way of aircraft for
this show :(

I guess things are tough all over!

Once again, thanks for doing what you do :ymapplause:

Hope XH558 has a safe flight to and from Duxford, and puts on a good display at the airshow.
I will find out how close she was to where I will be when I log back in on Saturday evening.
