The Avro Anson did a lovely spirited display - unfortunately the Vipers hunters, Typhoon & Sea Hawk didn't show, but they was a couple of flypasts by the harriers as well as the display - so all in all it was a good day - especially for free!! :p

And I forgot to mention that an Auster hit the runway rather hard & at an acute angle first thing this morning - pilot reported OK even tho' a crash was called & the RAF emergency services attended. There was a good crunching sound but looking at the pics close up the A/c doesn't look as bad as XP & I first feared!!

I went along, but I was in 'cattle class' by the crash gate on Hooby (?) Road. I think I arrived just after 11:30 (after following a sodding tractor for 4 miles from Oakham...). I saw something displaying as I was on my way in - I suspect it was the Sabre - if it was on before the Harrier. What I saw was pretty good, particularly the JP with it's nice low passes over the runway, but I had to leave at about 14:15, just after the Yaks took off. Probably missed the best stuff!

It started off with the Falcons then the Harrier,

the Sabre display around 2.30 before more Harriers - it was a good day must admit.

JP was on at 13:00 and the Sabre at 14:30, as you say the Yak Team, The Ospreys were on at 14:15.

There were some late arrivals because of the Auster heavy landing!!! The Tucanos, Hawk & JPs

I hear XP it was a fuel problem with the Auster

Sounds possible as the ENGINE had stopped, still fail to comprehend why the pilot elected to make a DOWNWIND landing on the middle of the runway when he was heading in to wind when the prop stopped! :-o

Nothing like making things harder in a BAD situation! ~x(

Whatever it was I saw as I was on my way in looked from the distance as though it had delta wings and a long slender tail. Bear in mind though, that I was still two or three miles away and just catching occasional glimpses over the hedges whilst driving, so it probably didn't look like that at all!

Just a thought - could it have been a Sabre doing a go-around before landing?

The Sabre appeared from the South and joined to display from the Eastern end of the airfield.
