Thorpe Camp.

Postby Hihonyr8811 » Sun Apr 18, 2010 7:05 pm

I went to Thorpe Camp visitors centre today (which is between Woodhall Spa and Coningby/Tattershall at Tattershall Thorpe). Been meaning to go back for a long time.
Although it kind of backfired as there were signs saying no photography allowed :ymblushing: :)) so I only managed a few pics ;) :D and no flash so pretty poor quality.

I also managed to pick the day they were hosting the Boston classic car club lol.

It really is worth a visit, It's the domestic site to what was RAF Woodhall Spa, and there's a lot of info to take in.

It's only open Sundays April to October, as well as bank holiday Mondays and Wednesdays in July. 2pm till 5pm.
Which is why It's taken me 3 years to get back :)) as it never seems to be open :(

Although they have a couple of upcoming car boots sales (the only one I can remember off the top of my head if July 30th as it's my birthday :))) but no ida if you can go around the museum or not.

Great pics Helen! :D

When I went it wasn't open so I only got this 1 pic of XM192, this was summer 2006

She looks good from a distance but when you get close enough you can see it looks like a blind 1 handed monkey cut the wings and tail off and then Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen used some polyfiller to stick them back on again ~x(

She looks better now (although not much you can do about te cut lines :( ), they really do look after her they cover her up in bad weather, and as you can see, they're tarting her up a bit and they can apply power to bits (altough I don't know what lol :)) ).
I'm just gald that she's probably there to stay (going to be a job to move her in future lol).

A quick update on 192, when I passed by today she now has a kind of mint green tail fin :-o
Looks, erm, interesting.
Anyone shed any light on it?
Squadron colours or something?

Could it be some sort of primer Helen - or does it look more like a finish?

Apparently it's a base training day so yeah I think so, other than QRA I guess.

Bet the BBMF are miffed.
They're running out of time to get the Lanc air tests in before Duxford :(

Evidently they got the 'bit' today - but I don't know for sure - the engineers said on Friday night it shouldn't take long to replace once they have it.
