Kemble/Fairford/Lyneham etc

Postby SnailRFC » Thu Mar 04, 2010 2:35 pm

Now I know I can ask this kind of question in here and not get mercilessly ripped about it, so here goes!

I currently live in the Forest of Dean, girlfriend lives in Reading, we are thinking about moving in together in the next few years, so somewhere in the middle suits fine. This leaves an array of options, some of which lie in the Kemble, Fairford, Lyneham areas.

I know Fairford has recently closed for all active service, but can be "readied within hours" if necessary, and Kemble still has the odd stuff going in and out, but mainly private and stuff for parts that makes it's final journey there for breaking.

Lyneham is very active and the Hercules' are regularly spotted on my commutes to Reading and back hopping up and down, but if anybody lives close or nearby, where's decent for living in these kind of areas, either within those places themselves or on flight paths that are decent for spotting from garden, house or walking nearby over these areas.
How active is Kemble on a daily weekly basis? Obviously both Kemble and Fairford have annual air shows which are an added bonus.

Just one quick point, Lyneham is due to close in 2012 I think!
