Might make an airshow worth visiting in 2012. Not gonna be much else to see at this rate

What would a job lot of say a squadron of (scrap) Harriers (and their pilots) cost? Formation bowing to the crowd.

Having said that it woul;d be lovely to see a Gannet again.

I've always thought, a bit like a bee, it looks like it shouldn't fly.

The SCRAP harriers were the SEA HARRIERS, the GR9s are waiting to be sold!

Cost would be in excess of £336 million!

DT was asked to ferry a Gannet across the pond a few years ago - he thought about it and decided No it was too risky too many possibles to go wrong -

Some else ended up doing it and had to turn back 700 miles from the nearest runway due to engine problems...

good decision then!

Sounds like that might be putting it mildly.

The combining gearbox on the front of the double mamba, which takes the two drives up to the co-axial contra-rotating props, is a superb piece of work. Probably nothing too special today, but at the time it was really cutting edge technology.

Id love to see one [or two as XL500/G-KEAW is being restored to flight at Exeter by Kennet Aviation , although thats gone a bit quiet lately] flying again , the last time i remeber seeing one in the air was at Air Fete 87 [or was it 88 ?] which I belive was XL502/G-BMYP [now at Elvington]

Used to see Gannets operating out of Deadalus back in the 70's when Ark Royal was in. One usually made an appearance for the annual Lee air day, although I was always more interested in the Phantoms and Buccaneers!
