Lightning drawings

Postby Spitfire » Mon Jul 12, 2010 12:09 am

My mate Chris - the Javelin model builder - has just sent me an email as he knows I lurk around these parts .... he is interested in a Lightning as his next project to build....

Part of the text of his email is thus....

Conversation turned to projects models etc. inevitably including the lightning. I've had a quick search of the internet but havn't turned up anything sufficiently high resolution - wondered if your contacts would have/know of anything useful - drawings which could be scanned/ copied etc. I have ideas for motors, fans, batteries, structure, size but nothing will come of it until I have some nice 3-view drawings - just the usual top, side and end views + various sections not technical detail stuff.

Yes I have contacted Andy B (320psi) - but he hasn't anything readily to hand - but is asking around - in the meantime anyone here got anything remotely like what Chris is after ??

As he says NOT blueprints but good quality plan, side and end views would be useful - as described in red above.

There must be something out there and you guys and gals are a good starting point :D :D

Nice links - thanks - that last one from you Phantom is pretty much spot on with that 'Volume 28' link :D

Perhaps I should have mentioned that he has 'scrooge like' tendencies and pays for very little =)) =)) =))
He was my best man back in '76 and in my speech I said that 'he's the only bloke I know who sends his eggshells back for refills' :p :p Although born and bred in Herefordshire of mixed Liverpudlian and Herefordshire stock I swear he's actually Scottish =))

So book 'buying' will be an absolute last resort [-x

All kind assistance will, however, be passed to him as he did ask and you have kindly provided :D :D

When I was last at Bruntingthorpe I purchased a Lightning book for medellers, so I will see if it has got anything like what has been requested and maybe scan it in and send if it would be of use.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Image

Does that mean he will not be expending any energy to walk to the library because of the cost of wear and tear on his footcoverings. :-?

Sorry about that MF :) I answered from work and rushed as I was asked to actually do a bit of my day job :p

Just checked the modelling book and the 1/72nd scale drawings at the back of the Richard J Caruana SAM Publications book on the Lightning are copyrighted to him, so I don't think I am allowed to scan and send them :( .

He may possibly visit a library as a very last resort - but in the mean time will search for the free option.
However - today I sent the link to this by eamil ........
http://www.amazon.co.uk/English-Electric-Lightning-Comprehensive-Modeller/dp/0953346579/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278952942&sr=8-1
and as his wife and he share an email address she saw it and rang me as the school he works for are looking for a retirement present for him as he leaves this month.
So they are going to get him - as part of his present - that and 2 others from the same series the Hunter and the Meteor.
So - several birds killed with one stone :D :D

I suspect a mistype there MF - I think he meant to type SF - but your image and the thwacking stick are so deeply ingrained in his psyche he thought of me but typed you :D :D :p :p
