i have to tell you Danf that, of all British 'trolley-dollies', BA's were by FAR the oldest and least attractive - but, compared to ANY of the Murkin ones, they were spring-chicken goddesses! :((

whilst working at LGW, i used to share a lift EVERY DAY with about two-dozen of these beauties...

:D \:D/

sadly, i was 'loved-up' at the time and 100% faithful as ever! :((

Yeah, but that was in your "day", SM.....

50s 60s first half of 70s most Murkin Stewardi except
for the supervisors were young, unattached loverlies
out to see the world and have a good time. The airlines
only hired the nicest looking applicants of which there
were many....

BUT THEN the women's movement intervened and age
limits disappeared along with the marriage injunction
and suddenly air travel was less attractive and much
more businesslike.

Something gained, something lost......

an amusing (well i think so anyway) anecdote from my time at LGW.....

my company's staple was dealing with the high-risk flights to Tel Aviv and Ovda, both in Israel - obvious reasons ;)

the majority of the pax were devout Jews, who have some 'interesting' views regarding the 'cleanliness' of women. Monarch Airline's stewardesses HATED the Israeli flights for this reason, and were always very outspoken about what they had to endure.

on one flight, which was running several hours late, i was supervising the screened pax who were standing on the jetty waiting for me to allow them to board. it would appear that the Purser (chief stewardess) was unaware that these Israeli pax could hear her as she 'tested' the intercom, announcing to the rest of her crew that, "The outbound film would be Leon the Pig Farmer, and the inbound film would be Schindler's List!"

there was a mass sharp intake of breath on the jetty and several thunderous-looking faces! =))
