Dakota landing at Coventry Airport this lunchtime ! Looked and sounded wonderful, but didnt manage to get markings. Wonder if that s one of the aeroplanes coming back from Newquay ?? Cant wait to see Airbase open again

Pair of low flying F15's over my house a few minutes ago. Slightly higher than the Typhoons I saw on 3rd March.

What with the Lancaster yesterday, the Typhoon this morning and the Dakota most of the afternoon displaying I think I will start making sure my cameras are charged and with me as it looks like the practicing has started for the airshow season, tried my mobile phone with the Dakota but not very good.

Looking gorgeous this afternoon at Bruntingthorpe, VC 10 sitting patiently on the pan, probably counting the days untile her first fast taxi on May 25th !

Victor, Canberra, Buccaneers, JPs, Delphin, Nimrod, Lightning, etc, all on full chat at Bruntingthorpe today, the place was packed, and the VC10 closed the day, with the BBMF Spitfire arriving just as she was getting on to the pan. Perfect. Cannot believe how loud the VC10 was, a spectacular first taxi.
And not a drop of rain, either !

XH558 has just taken off from Finningley for her first flight of the year !

Well I mentioned to my manager that 558 had taken off for its first air test (having seen Kermit's post) and told him that in the past she would fly over Coninsgby and Waddington, all off a sudden he said could that be her looked out of the window and sure enough slow, low & quiet (but still unmistakable as a Vulcan) right down the runway. No ruddy camera again

Followed by the C17 departing, Sentinal and a few prop jobs and finally a Typhoon.

Couldn't see her but I could hear 558 when I was in the day surgical unit at Lincoln county hospital on Monday, sadly I had no window view
And then yesterday I tracked her all the way around my house plus the display practice at Scampton and didn't see her once Sounded good though

Really exciting for down here ... but at 7.55 am today a lone FRADU (Fleet Requirements and Air Direction Unit) black Hawk streaked over our house at low level ... dashed out of the house to see him disappearing over the sand dunes towards the sea going NE ....lovely to hear a military jet down here ..

Not this one just to get a flavour ...


I understand there is some sort of military exercise going on down here at the moment - perhaps its to do with that

DC3 in camo and invasion stripes on finals into Coventry, one engine sounding very sick (popping and banging) couldn't see its serial number got down ok though.

558 spending the afternoon at Sywell, Northamptonshire, flyipasts with Spitfire and the Blades, then ending the day with a thunderous display before leaving for Waddington. Well done Martin, Phil and Jonathan, we loved it ! And quite a few other airfields etc got a visit too. GREAT ! The ice cream man had not seen her before and couldnt believe her size and decibel level

Never saw a thing I think 558 went around us, as we ended up at Coningsby in the end and she was west of there according to the scanner. Oh well.
I did see an Osprey though




Plus the A400 and 2 F-16s (Turkish Air Force).

Didn't get time to get a decent photo but caught a glimpse - in the distance - of the Classic Airforce Rapide - G-AGTM - 'Sybille' yesterday ...



Just as an aside I asked a friend who is involved with CAF why 'Sybille' ?

He explained about the name and he told me about Sybille Gautrey ...

Remembering Sybille

Sybille Gautrey was a superb volunteer pilot. Tango Mike was one of her particular loves, and she flew it as skilfully and considerately as she did all of our precious charges.

Tragically, Sybille lost her life as a passenger in a modern aircraft in 2008. We'll always miss her cheerfulness and enthusiasm for a job that was the absolute focus of her life.

Tango Mike has been christened in fond memory of a great friend.

What a beautiful tribute to a person - to name an Iconic Classic Aircraft after someone in perpetuity is amazing.

Sybille was killed in an accident which is tragic in it's circumstances - one of those 'perfect storm' incidents where things combine to create a devastating mid air collision and 5 people lost their lives. Sybille was a passenger in a Cessna 402C aircraft G-EYES.
