Volcanic Eruption

Postby Mayfly » Thu Apr 15, 2010 8:55 am

in Iceland has closed a lot of UK airports & all domestic flights - hope no-one was going on holiday :(

Virtual radar shows the only flights are basically south bound out of Heathrow..........

Someone just told me that a volcano has erupted in Iceland. I'm going to shop at Morrisons.

I don't know

The Cod War
Banks

& now Volcanoes

what have we ever done to the Icelanders?
I'd rather be skiing

thanks Mayfly, this year has not been good for flying so far i have had 3 flights canceled and another 3 delayed (they were due to snow in Germany)
having seen first hand the state the engines get into after flying through the ash cloud so i am glad they are being cautious but i am really fed up with traveling at the mo! :(
just looked at my travel options,
drive to Calis 11.5 hours
ferry 1.5 hours
drive back to coalville from dover 3.5 hours
happy days!

can you not fly nearer to Calis then drive over - or is it all to do with the car you'll be driving?

i have had a look at flights but the only one i could find bellow £400 extra (the customer has to pay this) was easyjet tomorow from linate at 13:00 to paris which wont help alot so i think its gonna have to be the hard way or not at all the car i have is a Hertz hire car so i should be able to drop it off at Calis and get on the ferry as a foot passanger got a feeling its going to be a Very long day!
fly BE (who got me here) have canceled all flights today and are reviewing tomorrows flights aswell so not looking very good, the news said that the ash cloud is coming over to europe so that wont help either :(

Coningsby ATIS is saying station closed until further notice, glad I caught that, was going to go after mum got bak from the dentist.

If this cloud shifts there might be a good sunset tonight :D

All flights in and out of the UK are cancelled until 1800BST as ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland moves south.
