Funny, I got one too. The wife says "You've got a letter from Canada", I said "They're after money". Hidden now. Keep mum. :D

Hmmmm, not sure I would describe the [technical term] bit which joins the blade to the spinny bit [/technical term] as being in mint condition ;)

I think you might find it is either a heavily greased/waxed paper that is wrapped around metal parts to protect them when packaged/stored or it is the other stuff that can be sprayed/painted on and sets like soft plastic, they use it on reamers etc as well.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Image

It was usually waxed paper with threads of some sort in it. Kit today even comes with it on.

a lot of military kit comes wrapped like that - virtually every new armoured vehicle component comes mummified in greased paper

Yep, nothing to worry about, some stuff we replaced on 558 was covered in a wax paper strengthened with string laced web and covered in pitch. Thats how they protected metal areas for long storage in any part of the world back in the 1940's. That prop blade may have been made before me! :-o

I bet when they stripped the coating if was factory fresh. :D
