victor whoopsie

Postby Dougs » Mon May 04, 2009 8:54 pm

i was wondering why the apparent silence about the victor was needed as the CAA will be involved anyway and i am sure they are not bothered/ influenced about what has been reported yet the silence has been asked for by the CWJ organisers.
why?
as far as i have seen all of the other jets the lightning crew especially are very responsible and should not be hiding!

I would think its simply to give those it concerns a chance to report it to the CAA first hand, rather than have chinese whispers colour the facts. I doubt very much anyone thinks it can be kept quiet or that was the intention
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

OK i get that but surely reporting would be from the pilot and organisers only, not Joe public. my biggest fear is that from this very unfortunate incident that the really well done displays by the lightning group and the two Vulcan's are stopped i for one would miss DT's wheelies at mountford :((

Really angry that the victor was allowed to do this :-o

victor whoopsie

Postby Dougs » Tue May 05, 2009 7:45 am

i wont post the pics but the victor took off during its fast taxi, nearly contacted the port wing tip then got to about 40ish feet and came down on the starbord side hard on the grass they managed to stop and all on board are ok airplane is also in good condition with only a couple of sensors loose.
now im not a pilot but the glaring thing i noticed right away was the flaps down not impressed [-x

No doubt the full and accurate sequence of events will become known once the meeting with the CAA has occurred. I understand the event organisers secured video footage and photographs from people on the day and they will be presenting them first-hand to the CAA. It's also worth highlighting that we were told after the event (once some of the "recovery" vehicles had returned) that the incident occurred due to throttles being jammed open: not a case of the Victor "being allowed" to do this.

hummmmmmm dificult to prove either way however i dont want to get into a slanging match as to the cause but from an observation why would you set flaps for a ground run? surely this would give you extra lift which is undesirable!
i have to add that i love these old aircraft and the fast taxiing but it should be done VERY carefully, as in my view it is more difficult NOT to fly one of these planes on these fast taxi's afterall they are designed to fly!
p.s.
i am just glad that no one was injured and no damage was done

removed 2 posts from this thread as Im not sure what the current situation is (been off the radar the last 36 hours).

I will happily put them back if proven wrong ........ but for now, want Iconic forums to respect the wishes of the CWJ day organisers.

The photographs I posted earlier this morning came from the public domain! Please put them back up!

I suspect David Walton would be the first to instigate an inquiry in to the events of the CWJ day 2009!

I think for the time being Wedgy has to show caution and follow the wishes of those that requested they are not banded about, just show a bit of patience and I'm sure that if a time occurs when they can be posted without causing offence or 'badwill' then he will reinstate them. This and other forums rely on such organisers to provide 'early' information on all sorts of things and it would be a shame to risk losing that goodwill.

Posts reinstated :)

Apologies if it caused offence, but in the end I think it was only right and proper to limit discussion until at least the initial CAA meeting.

Petty? Maybe - but we are a respectable forum :P

Lets just hope the final outcome is the RIGHT one. Afterall, this could affect all our future enjoyment of these beautiful aircraft.

The way i read that report [may not be right] is that they're going to get away with it because its not on the civil register . Nice loophole if thats true [again thats only how i read it] ;)
