Harrier for displays?

Postby Ajw » Fri Mar 18, 2011 12:49 am

Are any of the Harriers going to be kept airworthy for show purposes?

I am aware that they have gone into storage rather than being scrapped, but will we see any of them in the air other than for RTS?

There are others on here far more knowledgable than I, but I wouldn't have thought so. By design they are unique and very complex planes to keep in the air. Unless the U.S. Marines want to keep one going for us.

Logically if you think abut it as far as UK military goes - it would require aircrew and ground crew currency along with an operating base and spares - hardly the sort of expense that could be justified in the present climate especially when they got rid the Harrier to save money.

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

Not a chance....the only way we will ever see one flying again in this country is if its a Spanish or US Marines AV-8....There is that Sea Harrier flying in the states perhaps he could be persuaded to bring it over the pond?
