TTTE Cottesmore Tornados

If you loved Tornados the Tri-national Tornado Training Establishment at Cottesmore was your Mecca in the 80s.

Their Families Days were something special. I loved those Bratwurst hot dogs.

The first Italian Tonka , here at Yeovilton from Farmer Krang's field. What's that in the background on the RNHF pan?

reminds me of when I was in the RAF at Valley, on the far side of the airfield where I worked (ST.C.A.A.M.E), I and 2 others were sent `home` early and told to report back for night guard duty,we were briefed that if the poilce came round and found us asleep, the it would be `instant` court martial.

During the night, curiosity got the better of us, so we got the keys to the hanger and a quick look see.

We were guarding the first two of these. :-o :-o

apparantly there was a bit of a hoo ha at the time, so needless to say, we stayed awake........

I remember taking our Cubs to Cottesmore when it was still a Tornado base - must have been '92 to '94. Watching them take off at dusk on a Summer's evening from the control tower was quite something. I wish I'd had a camera with me...

I also remember being allowed to sit in a cockpit: "Empty your pockets and don't touch anything painted yellow."

Actually that's the July 1994 show and the Sea Vixen in question was XN692 from the FAA Museum, so it wasn't an airworthy machine at that time.
I'm English, and as such I crave disappointment
