F-111 'Varks from the 80s

Postby MOD » Thu Nov 11, 2010 10:45 pm

I was asked to post some F-111s on FC so I have copied them here as well.

'Gary W, as requested some swingers from the 80s. After the Lightnings these were my favourite aircraft. Photogenic from any angle, even on the ground and from the mid 80s onwards they often carried some superb nose art.

The earliest shots here are from the 1981 display when the Thunderbirds arrived for their first UK display with the F16. Their display was such an anti-climax, after all the hype - but that's another story.'

Again apologies for the quality as at this time I was using a Practika with Sigma lenses..

007. The markings were toned down as originally she carried 'Licence to Kill' and a Beretta silhouette but the brass were afraid of the 'Peace' camp idiots and changed it. It also really did appear in a Bond film.

Unless someone buys one and flys it on the airshow circuit , you've missed out .
I only ever saw a dump and burn once [the Aussies at Fairford 91 ?] and i grew up on Upper Heyfords perimeter fence :(

Oli. The only way you will get a dump and burn now is have one very hot curry and 6 or 7 pints of Stella ;)

Pure bliss, I remember watching them turn towards Emley Moor mast before heading to the east Coast, they were then followed by the A10's. :ymapplause:

Emley Moor - brings back memories. When I look at my Mam and Dad's grave, there is nothing between them and Emley Moor on the Pennines, which is about 20 miles as the crow flies. Being a Yorkshireman is something that non - Yorkies will never understand. It's nothing about superiority or being tight or anything like that. It's about a feeling in the chest; a feeling that no matter how long you've been away - you are home. It is indeed, God's own County.

I expect flak over this, but it is true - you can take the Yorkshireman out of Yorkshire....but you can't take Yorkshire out of the Yorkshireman.

Default Best fly-by picture ever? RAAF F-111...

The photographer did a hell of a job with this one.
