The way it's worded, it sounds more like disciplinary than voluntary. :-??

It iswith considerable regret that Flt Lt Tom Saunders has been withdrawn from hisrole as the Hawk solo Display Pilot for the remainder of the Summer displayseason. This follows an incident which took place recently involving the HawkDisplay aircraft.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, Doesn't sound like a 'tech' issue does it.

I've gone all curious now....

Pam, ear to the ground pronto pls.

It is the most horrendously written press release - full of errors and badly written sentences X(

Smacks of extreme haste and great embarassment (and a very poor writer) ;)

That sucks, I never even saw the new paintjob :((

Why has the RAF cancelled the solo Hawk Display?

An incident has occurred involving the pilot of the RAF Hawk Display aircraft, who has since been withdrawn from his role. The incident is being investigated and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.

As mentioned on another site, it's clearly not a problem with the aircraft and the word "withdrawn" doesn't sound too great, with regards to recent events then there was the Families Day at Valley.

However, someone on UKAR that knows Tom and says he is starting his Tacticle Weapons Training tomorrow so god knows!

Whatever the outcome it's a real shame.

There's bound to be the inevitable rumours & speculation because of the badly worded press release, however I see a couple of fora have been pruning their threads!!

Valleys families day was Saturday - it was on Pprune Friday afternoon about the display been pulled

Oh dear. I guess it was only a matter of time before a trouble maker calling themselves an RAF source tried to make some money from it.

All very disappointing as he flew a very good display and it will be missed. Whatever the rights and wrongs I really do get sick of the speculation amongst both the media and ill-informed individuals when this type of incident or worse an accident, occurs. :(

In the past I have been at the blunt end of this type of reporting. Little information spawns gossip, the trouble is this...when the gossip is incorrect and proven later, the damage is done. The apology comes in a small column in the small adds section. X( X( X(

My direct knowledge of the media is limited to DT & his interviews about his display flying, not important in the scheme of things, but even then when it was a recorded interview or a piece in the newspaper it was amazing how much they would edit the article to make it sound more exciting or contentious.

Too true, MF, they will print what they want to print, I regret and the broadcast media are no better. I alluded to this in an earlier post but being a novice on here I don't know who everyone is but have gleaned that Mr MF "wsas in the business a bit". Can you say more? :)

An RAF pilot of 43 years which 50% of his time he was an instructor, he was a display pilot on BBMF flying the Lanc and Dak 6 years and displayed the Vulcan on the VDF for 6 years - he also did the test flights and the 2008 display season for 558.

He's the one in the middle

A fine figure of a man. ;) What a marvellous career - he'll have a few yarns, I have no doubt and I must have seen him displaying countless times.
