Victor, Nimrod & H-Bomb at Elvington

Postby MrTim » Thu May 06, 2010 11:02 pm

Had a good look round Elvington on Monday to get a close look at our new arrival. Still not able to look inside yet. Some paperwork and H&S stuff was mentioned.

Nice pics MrTim.

Can I presume the Various Victors around the country painted in the above colour are ones that were used in the Gulf War, but were never returned to the normal camo paint due to retirement?

Here's the other one. This is a decommissioned weapon. The other one is a training weapon.

I thought there was a nuke on display at Hack Green Nuclear Bunker, but maybe the old memory is playing tricks (again :( )

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

There are also 2 at Duxford. If they meant ex-live weapons then as has been pointed out, not even Elvington has one of those.

The above Victor colours are Air Defence Hemp the same as Nimrods..... all Victors lost there camo schemes I believe soon after the Falklands and were painted this colour prior to the Gulf... in fact there is evidence that they were painted in Gulf War colours whilst out there..

Rod has got two of them there - plus the business end of a Chevaline I think. He claims that if he had the physics packages he'd be the 8th largest Nuclear Power! ;)
