Typhoon Pilot Interview - Made in 1945!

Postby ActionArt » Sat Apr 17, 2010 2:36 pm

Here's something different: http://actionart.ca/ForumPics/TedSmith.mp3

It's a short news interview with Ted Smith during the battle of the Rhine recorded on March 25, 1945. He had it on an old Vinyl record! I had it restored and here it is.

Makes it sound like a walk in the park, fantastic.

Brilliant! Never cease to be amazed how those guys were always so matter of fact about what they did and treated it as "just doing my job". The big 88's might not have been firing at him, but I bet a lot of radar controlled flak stuff was. Marvellous, good old Canucks!

I liked his comment about "applying the cluster bomb routine". Sounds as easy as changing oil, but nothing could be further from the truth.

They made this recording right in the field just after he had jumped out of his Typhoon after returning from one of those runs.
