The killing of the TSR2

Postby Air » Mon Jan 04, 2010 6:47 pm

Just a heads up to an afternoon play on Radio 4 this Thurs.
Will probably end up on iplayer too for those who can't hear the radio broadcast.

No idea how good it'll be but probably worth a listen.

This is my sig:

I hope it's not too inflammatory and I hope that certain people wont completely misunderstand it like they did with the last one.

Did anyone listen to it?

Was it any good?

XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

No, not really. Obviously as a play it was going to be 'different' but it was far too short to be of any real historical interest imho.

Give it a listen on the link I posted if you've got 45mins to spare, but you probably wont hear anything you already didn't know.

Thanks for that. I think I'll give it a miss. Got the builders starting to tear the house apart tomorrow, so 45mins of peace and quiet is probably not an option for a while.

And will you be watching the builders with your PEDANTS eye?

Shouldn't that be PEDANT'S eye - possessive singular requiring use of an apostrophe?

Aha, you are forgetting the convention that CAPITALISED possessives do not require apostrophes. :D

I will certainly continue to be a pedant as far as the builders are concerned, but as we have moved from the house to the boat for bearable accommodation for the duration of the works, my forum pedantry will be restricted by a GPRS connection with a distinct lack of bandwidth. ~x(

I think you'll find that the convention applies to capitalisation of acronyms and initialisms, for example CDs, MPs, FRCs, etc. It should not apply in a case when the writer decides to capitalise a word for effect, as in 'PEDANT' where the apostrophe is still helpful in demonstrating possession.
