Ah - thanks for that - very interesting ...the mists are clearing - so David Walton Ltd is a sort of hub around which it all spins .... makes sense ... so CWJ is some sort of organisation within DW Ltd then?

Intriguing ;)

Mayfly wrote:The only addition I have is

3)Besides the museum, Bruntingthorpe is now more of an industrial estate - with lots of different companies working out of there.......and the runway is used as a race track and for testing cars - along with the fact there are no airfield services it is why it was not good for 558

Yes I wondered what all the lines of cars etc were about .... so there's no form of control tower at all ..... so who speaks to who on radios to arrange landings like today ?? I mean a Nimrod landing on a car being tested is not good news :)) :))

David Walton Ltd own Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome and it was primarily set up for discreet testing of motor vehicles, (surrounded by trees). A massive amount of the floor plan is covered with parked ex rental cars and lorry containers.

D.W. has his house on the northeast corner of the site and full time security on the gate!

Something that surprises me is that there is no 'Cold War Jets' website (unless anyone knows different...) I know there is an 'Aircraft Museum' page on the Bruntingthorpe website, but it doesn't really carry a great deal of information. I would have thought a dedicated CWJ website, with potted histories of the D. Walton owned aircraft, plus links to LPG, Phoenix, Guppy etc websites would be worth it's weight in gold.

I never even thought to look for a Bruntingthorpe website :p :D

I see now that the CWJ is just a small part of the whole .... and I totally agree that there should be a main CWJ site with the links to all the other aircraft enthusiasts that are not DW owned ;)

BTW there are 2 stonking wideos of XV226 landing - taken from about the same place as the best video of XH558's first take off .....

Touch and go

Final landing

It has been mentioned about the website and offers have been made. It's more a case of: nobody wants to piss on anyone elses chips by just doing it. It's gotta come from above and I just don't think they have the time.

And this vidoe is best! (It's not mine either!)

Nice videos. Love the on board footage.

Fingers crossed we'll be there at the end of the month to see the new arrival, and what is left of the other 2.

Last I heard one that was the answer of Phill Rydell, he taxi's the Comet and being as its the same aircraft but with a chin, I dont see a problem with that, he does a good job showing the Nimrods older sister off already.

Yeah Phil has been onboard a few times already, familiarising himself with it. What I have heard around the site is the crew that flew her in will be back for the first couple of runs, with Phil observing. Don't know how true that is though

I understand from Denis P that the CWJ's chaps had their first familiarisation meeting with the RAF yesterday...

Sounds very promising for the Cold Wet Jets day!! :D
