Problem was traced to a faulty Earth Gravity switch which is inter-linked with the nose up attitude thingey.... =))

what's odd though, and i know next to nothing about flying, is that it LOOKS as if she actually became airborne BEFORE being caught by the crosswind

hmmmmmm

Flypast article gives sequence of events thus:

Engines run to 88%
Brakes let off
Cruise power applied by co-pilot
Pilot pushing control column forward with left hand and nose wheel steering with right
Accelerate down runway
Pilot call for power chop - no response
Pilot urgent call for power chop - no response
Pilot releases control column to close throttles himself
Aircraft pitches up and, due in part to change in thrust vector, becomes airborne
Crosswind picks up starboard wing and aircraft veers left
Victor now flying - sufficient speed not to stall following lowering of nose
'Normal' landing made ASAP - on grass
Steered back onto runway and stopped on brakes

Cheers,

if pilot not confident in the skills/understanding of the person on the throttles then i think pilot error

always use two pilots that know how to fly the plane? :D

Cant see it being a proper co-pilot so a seat occupant looks favourite

i have never read so much bull s@#t in my life some very BIG issues with the sorry excuses given it may have ultimately been the co operator of the aircraft that did not shut off the throttles however;
1) why are take off flaps selected before the run is started (massively increases the likelihood of flight)
2)why was the trim of the aircraft such that it would take off with neutral stick???(very odd)

i just think they are lucky to be alive and ashamed of themselves that they bring the properly operated aircraft groups into scrutiny X(

they all setup as if to take off... so flaps etc will be selected... these high speed runs are aborted takeoff's (ill soon get corrected).

I don't know the technicalities but evidently the flaps were rigged that way on the Victor whilst still in service to help reduce the FI consumption as they were rapidly running out of it.

Bovril, a fast taxi resembles an aborted take off and indeed looks like one, but is infact a controlled [or should be] acceleration & de-acceleration

I have just had it confirmed the pilot of the Victor that it was indeed a righthand seat occupant,

http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=89860&page=15

as pointed when I said 'wreckage' from the Air France crash was there is a dirrerence between that and 'debris' so is there a difference between co-pilot & seat occupant

MMMM I had not seen that video before. One thing is for sure, there must have been an exceptionally strong gust in the cross wind to move the aircraft so rapidly, and so far down-wind. The landing looks quite hard but it did not feel so bad in the aircraft. The occupant of the right hand seat was in fact one of the engineers who maintain the aircraft - this has been the practice for many years. As I have mentioned elsewhere, communication with the "co-pilot" was checked when the crew were briefed for the run, and the 100 Kt maximum speed - at which the throttles were to be closed - acknowledged by all. In the event, neither he nor I can explain why he did not close the throttles when he heard the call. From my perspective, all I can say is that he just seemed to freeze. I had mentally prepared for emergencies during the run - electrical or hydraulic systems failures, and possible engine failures. I had not prepared for the throttles remaining open!!! So you could say I had to make it up as we went along!!! Bob

So there we go then - from the horse's mouth so to speak - an engineer in the right hand seat - not any form of pilot - and I have to say I have some small sympathy with the poor bloke as I know I would have been so excited I would probably have been deaf to the world at that point too :ymblushing: Lessons learned all round - happy and safe outcome thanks to the professional not freezing and doing his job right - and very well :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

am I right in thinking that the victor is not configured for duel control as in you can't fly it from either seat like you can 558?

I don't think this has been posted before.

This clearly shows the wind sock & gives a good indication of wind direction & speed.

It's also an awsome photo.

Hi Pam,

Victor has dual controls, but only the captain has nose wheel steering.
