Anyhow, I think you'll be able to
achieve verisimilitude using film
stuff. After all, that's what's "real"
to most people, never having been
shot at on the water in reality....

Happy New Year All!!!

Here's the latest on the Typhoon project. Lots of action starting to happen now. After contacting the Landing Craft Association, I found out the ones I started with were the wrong ones (of course) so I'm working on changing that and adding a wake to each.

Just worked on the splashes today and now I have to add lots of flying dirt where the shells are striking the gun emplacements.

You'll have to check the high-res link since you can't see most of it on a small image. It's designed for a 3'x4' canvas.

Anyway, getting closer! Let me know if you spot something that doesn't look right :)

The splashes are great and the fire is really good too!! :D

Are you going to do some more work on the collapsed bridge? It looks a little flat at the moment. Can't believe how much you've done, it's like an aviation "where's waldo" there's just SO MUCH going on :-o :D

Happy New Year too, look forward to more pics \:D/

Thanks! I'd sure like to do more with the bridge. Any ideas would be most welcome :)

Just some highlights and different tones might "bring it out" a little and perhaps some of the supports hanging down might look good, maybe remove a section of it entirely and just have some supports sticking out the top of the water to indicate where it's gone. I have no idea really as I am useless with digital art, give me a set of crayons any day! :))

I think you're right. The shape of the bridge is modeled after an actual photo taken at the time but I'll work on the shading and highlights.

Wow !!! :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

That has progressed in leaps and bounds. That certainly is a very 'busy' picture, to say the least.

Just one observation on the diving Typhoons' bomb release - the bombs appear slightly too long. (Maybe they were that size - if so, ignore this comment ;) )

Thanks! Yes, those were cluster bombs and they were a bit longer and more like a tube than the regular 2000 pounders they usually carried (sharp eyes though!). I'm still working on the explosions of the ones just dropped but the Typhoon pulling up.

I was surprised when the pilot told me they were dropped straight down! They of course released bomblets all over the offending gun emplacement.

It was a busy day for sure :) Over 400 Typhoons attacked, along with 2000+ gliders and paratroopers further away.

Yes, it must have been that alright! One of the pilots I talked to had been shot down earlier and was hiding behind enemy lines in a barn on that day. His head was resting on a wood brace and he said he started to feel vibrations through it. He figured they were crossing the Rhine that day and he was right. Good news for him! They picked him up a few days later.

I know I haven't posted anything for so long there was some concern that I was dead. Gladly (or sadly depending on the point of view) this is not the case :)

I've posted one more update on the Typhoons. Sometimes the small details take the most time. I've been working on the grass, the landing craft, and wear and tear on the Typhoons. There's also some explosion enhancements but they aren't complete yet.

It's getting close overall. Just need to work on the landing craft wakes, some of the explosions and add a few tracers.

Hope you enjoy :p

Comments most welcome.
