I agree - I always felt they were used as scape goats and an easy way out.
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

17 years to clear their names ... X( Just how incompetent or even corrupt are the MOD? [-x

I hope this opens the door for action to be taken against those who have been proved to have been so incompetent .

I bet the mealy mouthed Official response is along the lines of ... 'We have learned valuable lessons here so let's draw a line and move on' X(

ibw - .... and relax.... :)

As IBW says really .But the MOD clear their names I wonder if anyone will actually update the records that no one will see for at least the next 50 years .Is it in writing Or was it just numb nut in the house of idiots saying they had done it ( I trust not the politician that can't look you in the eye).& there are 600+ of those.

I'm not a doubter but since the day of the crash I have read so much crap about it .I blame the person or persons unknown that authorised the flight and route in weather like that not the pilot's .Enough has been writen about that crash in the past 17 years But as is nearly always the case it's pilot error that is blamed simply because they are human and black box flight recorders are/were not carried in military aircraft so no one can tell if an engine failed ,the rotors touched,a bird strike, none of these it was as i recall they were flying to low in fog/mist,they had to try and see the ground somehow disorientated the crew, the aircraft could have got into a bank somehow .yea i know th earguments on that one i'll counter with the aircraft could have had electrical failure .Something went wrong that day big time there isn't anyone around that can tell what went wrong .To end I am trully glad they have been offically cleared now and will say it is 17 years to long for that to have taken.

This has been a long awaited, overdue decision to overturn those two 'officers & gentleman's' decision to besmirch the reputation of two pilots that I always trusted when flying with them and who could not defend themselves, I am so pleased for the families that they can now rest at ease over this character assassination of these two.

I will now raise a glass to them, the campaigners and families and just hope that some form of repercussion is forthcoming against the two that caused all this 17 years of controversy and pain for those families , friends and colleagues.

I agree with MOD.......... :D

I hope the M.O.D are going to offer more than just a verbal apology for besmirching the names of innocent people.. :ymapplause:

I don't think you can call it "incompetence" when.....

The initial Board of Inquiry findings were ordered to be altered by senior officers who had not taken part in the inquiry.

I'd class that as criminal, but I don't suppose any RAF or MOD top brass will be getting their collars felt. X(

Personally I'd have their pensions off them and give them to the families of the pilots.

Its always easy to blame those who cant defend themselves. At last justice now I hope the families can get some sort of closure from this whole sorry affair. My thoughts are with them. Its just a shame some of the family members did not live to see this day.
