Ultimate Spitters

Postby Spitfire » Fri May 21, 2010 9:49 am

I've been looking around for images for my desktop again and having got a bit fed up of the Vulcan from every angle over the past few years - and having dabbled with the Icelandic volcano eruption I thought I'd try and go back to my 'roots' :D

So I was looking for Spitfire VB images ... it's a toss up between that and the MKIX as to which I personally prefer as the most evocative 'real' Spitfire in my eyes ....

I dodn't have to look far for good images as the BBMF has AB910 ... but this one just leapt out at me as a stunning close up arial shot from just the right angle to show off the wing shape and total beauty of the thing ........ Now that the site allows better resolution just click on the image and feast your eyes :YMDAYDREAM: :YMDAYDREAM: :YMDAYDREAM: :YMDAYDREAM:

Image

As a desktop image it's just brilliant - it fills the screen diagonally from wing tip to wing tip ..... not sure I'm really enamoured by Donald Duck - but if that's what Jan Zumbach had on there then that's good enough for me :D :D

This is the plane that in Feb 1945 took off with a WAAF sitting on the tail :p

They're not stains, they're finger nail grooves! ;)

If only I could get close enough to it to stain it or leave finger nail grooves :( :(
Chance would be a VERY fine thing.... I would pay good money to just touch, or at the very best get to sit in, an airworthy Spitfire :p :D

Thanks Thumper ... I love the one of AR614 a brilliant picture - a very nice example of a Mk Vc.

Whilst a great supporter of Carolyn Grace and ML407 - especially it's story involving her late husband Nick - I have never liked to see Spits with invasion stripes and I'm glad to see that this year they are gone from this lovely aircraft

Oooooooooo nice pics DB!!

I agree with you Spitfire about the invasion stripes, they only look "right" on the Mustangs to me.

You obviously aren't mixing in the RIGHT CIRCLES! ;)

Whilst NOT a Spitfire, the Shuttleworth Collections AIRWORTHY Sea Hurricane is rather rare!

This is Hula-Hoop inn the cockpit, (taken by a friend of mine - a test pilot and pilot at the SC at Old Warden)!

Yep - you guys are all so much closer to the 'action' than me here in deepest Cornwall ........ :(

But I did look out of the office window on Thursday and see a pod of about 15 dolphins circling a shoal of fish on a flat calm warm and misty sea .... lovely B-) B-)

I'll have to make do with that till I'm retired and can move around the country a bit more perhaps :p :D
