Oh this is hilarious! check out this report on the sun website! I've never read such an over the top report:
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... death.html

Aparently they crashed while doing their cross overs at 800MPH........so that would have been faster than the speed of sound............. =))

The crossover would include the speed of both aircraft added together! I agree that 800 MPH is a little high, maybe 500 or so would be more realistic!

I love this understatement of the year ...............

Last night the RAF confirmed the Red Arrows had been involved in "pre-season training". It said Flt Lt Ling sustained "injuries associated with an ejection".

An official statement added: "His aircraft was severely damaged on impact with the runway. Flt Lt Montenegro managed to land his aircraft safely with no injuries."

'Severely damaged on impact' = a blackened pile of tangled metal not recognisable as an aircraft let alone a Red Arrow :p

As a kid in the late 50s, early 60s, I
remember that one or more sonic
booms were a regular feature of the
air shows I attended! What was then
Dow AFB also had an actual budget for
window replacement.

Wouldn't have been an airshow without
a few Big Bangs!

Looks like a bit of driver error to me.
Don't they usually pass head on starboard to starboard??
Being in Greece it looks like the were flying on the 'wrong side of the sky'!!

:-o

Blimey, he must have hit the deck pretty hard to damage his knees too? I presume the Tendon/Ligament damage to his knees is from landing badly with his chute deployed?

Volcanic ash now to blame for the synchro pair not getting anymore training done now X(

Either that, or knees hitting something during the ejection sequence.
