Woodford Vulcan XM603

Postby Ray C » Sat Apr 09, 2016 4:16 pm

It's happening......

So at last I can tell you restoration starts with a "Vengeance" on 603 on the 26th of this month starting with
her being surrounded with Scaffold & enveloped in sheeting
The task of rubbing her down will be daunting but we now have a number of volunteers lined up after
our introduction evening last week and what a fine buch they look... ;). When this task is complete she
will then have repairs & replacement to many areas where metal is missing or rotten.
Finally she will be re painted in Anti Flash white with black on her tail top & radome keeping her
presented in this only surviving White Lady colour scheme.

In closing I have to thank 655 for cockpit cover advise & the Woodford site owners for their support.

It's great to write happy aviation news...... :ymapplause:

Fantastic news and i am so happy she is now being looked after by an amazing museum after a scary few years when we thought she was going to be scrapped.
I was there when she landed back in 1982 and enjoyed using her delta as a umbrella at the fabulous Woddford airshows over the years. Hope to get over this weekend to get some photo's of her before she becomes shiny again !

I will catch you again Ray as i only got a pass out on Saturday which was as good as ever although cold ! Completed 58 miles on the bike and enjoyed cycling onto the site for the first time since the late 80's and using the museum's brilliant cycle shelter.
I took a load of photographs of 603 before the big restoration and got a cheeky couple of the bike at the end of whats left of the runway.
The museum is just a fantastic place to visit and next time i will have my yearly membership in hand !
