Film for VX770 crash and drawings

Postby grubb » Sat Feb 28, 2015 10:36 pm

Hi,

I'm currently doing a University project on structural failure and I'm looking for as much film of VX770 as it passed Syerston in 1958. The only bit I can find is the BBC local news about the anniversary but I need more to verify the speed of her, angles etc.

I have been to Kew, VTTS, local libraries etc. but I cannot find any film, and the online stuff has been pulled for some reason.

I could also do with some schematics of the prototype or Mk1 if anyone has those?

Can anyone help please?

Grubb.

Hi Welcome to IA

There are a couple of threads on here if you search for VX770. Not sure if there is any pointers in them for you tho'.

This is all I can find have you seen it?

In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

Hi,

Thanks for that, yes I've seen this clip, I had hoped for more to estimate her speed using ground objects to reference.

Keith Stevenson is sending me what film he has, maybe it will yield more (I hope).

Thanks again :D

Do bear in mind that the speed is largely irrelevant unless you also know the amount of control inputs applied, which could not be determined from the wreckage. See Avro's letter dated 24th September 1958 within TNA file BT 233/403.

I have sent you a pm ~ you may need to make one more post before you can access it.

I assume you found the RAE memo A/11265/12/WH dated 21st April 1960 in the BT 233/403 file. I have been unable to find any trace of the report to which it refers, Accident Note Structures 307, and I have tried every possible source I can think of. If you find any reference to it in the other files you are planning to review, please let me know.
