Whilst this isn't normally the place to post an obituary, as one on the best known saviours of 558 I thought it most appropriate.

BBC Midlands Today - ‏@bbcmtd
BREAKING: Former owner, Chairman, and Life President of @OfficialWolves, Sir Jack Hayward OBE, has died this afternoon aged 91

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30803931

In 2006 Sir Jack gave £500k towards 558s return to flight and help change her fortunes.
He was a well known philanthropist and helped many a charity.

Thank you Sir - RIP.

Seems like Vulcan to the sky have not heard of his passing there is no mention of it on the website. Without him the project would have been wound up well before first flight as we all know.
RIP Sir Jack we may well not see your like again.

CC.

It's amazing when you see the number of things he donated to. From buying Lundy Island to bringing back the SS Great Britain.

Indeed they called him 'Union Jack'.

I first heard of his generosity at RIAT in '06 when I heard 2 men talking about the donation he had given to the Horsa Glider restoration.

A fitting tribute on 558's newsletter.
