Vulcan RIAT 2014

Postby Nickolas » Fri May 30, 2014 7:27 pm

Well the news is out. Sorry 558 supporters and general public. We can only offer her a static place....
Well the rest of the show had better be pretty damned hot if they are not having a Vulcan there.
Good move by Dr Bob refusing to expose the village team to the wrath of the public.
Still RIAT's loss is everyone elses gain as I'm sure gates will rise elsewhere..

What are your thoughts on this ?????

How to win friends and influence people. Most tickets have already been bought, so there will be a lot of very cheesed off people about. I sincerely hope that RIAT comes to regret their decision. And yes, well done VTTS for refusing to expose the volunteers to disappointed fans. Besides, the cost of bringing 558 to Fairford for static only is probably prohibitive.

Ticket for Saturday and Sunday now for sale, should anyone be interested !

Quite incredible news regarding RIAT....(not that I was going) however, this great aircraft
will not grace the skies for much longer....As you say their loss . I'm looking forward to Waddington
& other events. ;)

RIATs choice - they have the money and spend it the way they want. There's no law to say they have to have her.

Anyone who buys a ticket simply because of the possible attendance of one a/c must be bonkers unless it's a once in a life time opportunity like seeing 2 Lancs together.

'Gates will rise elsewhere'
and
'Waddington & other events'

Have you seen the woeful list of 'Other events'

Compare that to this ...

Whatever happened to 'The Vulcan Effect' ... :(

I don't think RIAT will "live to regret it". It was big before 558 displayed and it will continue to be so. As Mayfly says, they pay for displays, so it is up to them. Even so, I'm glad I decided to miss this year.

Well had a look at the facebook page and about 700 comments damning the RIAT organisers

Personally I think there is far more to this than meets the eye..whether we will ever know what the real issues that stopped the vulcan appearing at this years show ..I suspect not.

Makes one wonder whether VTTS wanted too much money to perform.

I thought the display's at RIAT had become a bit dull over recent years and if the organisers can freshen things up a bit even if it means dropping other displays it can only be a good thing in my view.

RIAT have made a response to VTST but it doesn't really say much.

Looking at 558's display season, it surely has now become a non-viable project financially? The money they (VTTS) will loose will hit hard. Like mentioned above, perhaps the Vulcan effect is no more?

Hiya I actually have actually read quite a lot into it Mayfly... It basically demonstrates that on both sides there are extremely strong opinionated representatives who have been unable to reach as satisfactory conclusion to discussions with neither party prepared to compromise or back down for fear of losing face

..I've seen it all before in my work environment

For a long time now I have thought that that the money being ploughed in to this project is very disproportionate to its remaining flying time and the abysmal appearance bookings are just insult to injury ....

Lord knows I invested a considerable amount of my own money in the early days as it was approaching its return to the skies but since then its lurched from one huge financial crisis to another and recently with the wing modification its become farcical for the small amount of appearances its got ...

There is just no way its ever going to recoup a fraction of the spend or even its running costs so why not reduce the fees and make it more widely available?? ;)

As we all know it takes two to tango but if the flying display slots for both days are full then that's it then there full. I know DT helped with organising the shows at Waddington for a number of years and I'm sure he would tell you that trying to squeeze as much flying into the allotted time must have been a nightmare sometimes.

Hmmmm let's think ... we have limited flying slots - so shall we alot one to the cold war V bomber that's only around for 2 more years maximum - or shall we let some modern foreign spam can that will be around for years have it ....

Difficult choice I can see :p ;)

I was having a chat with Martin Withers a little while a go and he did say that 558 will be at Farnborough and they are planning something special so we shall see.
