Most likely reason is beacause the 2 removed engines had low hours on them so it was worth at the time putting them back in the spares pile, the 2 remaining probably have the opposite story.

"They have an open cockpit day two times a year, and you can climb up in the Vulcan. They even run electric to it so all the gauges are lit up."

Definitely not aircraft electrics, unless he knows something I don't? :-o They do have external florescent lights which light up the cockpit so, you could say they light up the gauges. =))

The way I read it, he is talking about XM605 at Castle.

XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

As far as I know castle don't put any power on, although they do have at least two open cockpit days

Castle did have power apllied a few years ago and they charged the nitrogen system and inflated the canopy seal and were opening and closing the crew door with aportable supply.. sadly politics got in the way and the ex raf engineer that was doing the work, left...

just foudn this.. oh my good rope lights in the cockpit and usaf helmets .. really??

Sorry for being quiet. There is NO money aside for 573 and I've become disillusioned as a result. I haven't volunteered down there since early March because I'm too busy doing other things. Had they wanted me to work on the Vulcan, then my interest level would have stayed pretty high. :(

God only knows. What I got from conversations in the crew room is that the Vulcan is sadly not a priority in terms restoration when they have a back log of American junk to deal with.

I did try - sorry.

Sorry for the delay. I looked at the charging the oleo but the strut seals have sadly perished. The only way to adjust her "attitude" would be to jack the nose up and have a collar manufactured and fitted around the fescalised portion.

What about trying to drum up support for it both in the us and the uk etc? Surely folks would donate towards getting her sorted?

It must of been very frustrating especially considering she was gifted to the museum and to have her left to slowly go down hill is sad.. Wouldnt take too much both monetrily and volunteer hours to spruce her up a bit..
Than you for trying and for taking the pictures of her cockpit. At least she appears to be very complete and dry inside..

If they had been available, they would have been grabbed! No doubt they went back to the RAF and were either used or scrapped when the Vulcans came out of service, leaving just the 9 retained by the VDF as spares (one of which was used following an engine issue in service, with the remaining 8 becoming the Trust's stock).
