Hi D4th,
As I said mate I have no problem with Sootys opinion as to the future of 558. My only beef is with the "bitching" comment. :( Don't hold grudges though, so that is all done with as far as I am concerned. ;)

As for being driven out =)) =)) That will be the day Yank, I am British, my ancesters were Irish and Welsh Celts and Anglo Saxon English, you might have noticed we don't get driven out by anyone without a fight, not since 1776 anyway and that is only because we were led by the inbred Norman English aristocracy or you Yanks would still be speaking English! :)) :)) =)) :ymdevil:

Assuming the runway stays open what about Filton Airfield as a base for 558 ? The Bristol Aero Collection and The Concorde Trust are trying to create an Aviation Heritage Centre based at the Airfield. The project in its current form has a very similar engineering focus . The project also has pledges from Airbus, Rolls-Royce and BAE Systems. The Bristol project is also going after HLF money (again) which if I understand correctly 558 can not since its already had 2.7m from them.

I'm told by a local 'man in the know' that the Filton runway will close in Dec 2012...

I saw XH558 fly over my house twice in recent months and I feel really lucky to have seen that. I hope that I will get to see that sight for many years to come :D

It is therefore with particular sadness that I have to tell you that we are planning for next year to be XH558's final flying year, and so, consequently, 2013 may well be your last opportunity to see a Vulcan fly.

:(( :(( :((
Well, its a shame '558 can't get extra funding. For her last flight she should do the famous barrel roll ( i know i'm dreaming, but it would be fantastic).

I think we all know it was just a matter of time before this news was brought to our attention, just a shame that the major sponsor was never found that was mentioned, promised, hoped for :(

I wonder what would happen if whoever flies 558`s into her final resting place did that.............they could not bar him from flying 558 again . :ymdevil:

It's less about funding and more to do with engine life by the looks of it.

For the first time I agree and agree the Trust have finally made the right choice. £200k to squeeze another year or so even if they had a full compliment of engines would be better placed in finding her a retiring home.

If any of you visit the VTTS forum I started a poll to get opinions on where people thnk she should be retired to, I think at least some of the club committee are taking an interest in the poll so if you are a member on the forum please indicate your choices (you can pick 2) Brunty and yeovilton are the top 2 at the moment, thanks
