Well, today was the end of an era in many ways. What a ride though.

So what is next for the team at Hangar 3????

Well whatever it is we have a good solid precedent ....

It will start as the most amazing and awe inspiring of projects with enthusiasm and commitment from all sides....it will achieve its main goal of a successful return to flight .... then commence its degeneration into a financial mish mash going uphill and down dale .... and end as the most disappointing, shoddy and badly managed debacle of all time .... :(( :((

In with a bang ... out with a whimper ~x( ~x( That's the way to do it :D

As long as they only get involved in the restoration and maintenance of the restored aircraft and NOT the roller coaster of the fundraising to keep it in the air...........

If at all...or whatever they decide to return to the skies, it could well be a Long task...therefore many of
us will be to old to care about the eventual politics of it and just admire another "Britan At Its Best" example
of aviation flying again.

So either tell us all, or delete your pointless post, or shall I do it for you?

I'm sure you have all seen by now, Canberra WK163.

Equinox, nobody likes 'I know something you don't' games. Many of us have known for a long time, but unlike you are mature enough to be discreet about it.

Go and play somewhere else you will fit in really well, like UKAR...

Well said, Blue_2, but probably a forlorn hope.

I'm delighted to see a Canberra staying in the UK & returning to the flight-air show circuit...
However, there is a Canberra languishing in the Cotswolds that would seem to be fully airworthy
that did not sell at a recent Bonhams auction XH134.

With a reserve of £50-70 grand it would to me seem a better proposition, maybe it's not that simple.
I do hope XH134 finds a UK buyer and home. :(

Surely as a steam locomotion enthusiast, you must be pleased there are still wheels on the (gravy) train. :p

I'm not sure what there is left out there to make a restoration viable and to be honest my I haven't taken much notice in recent years of the whys and wherefores but didn't Midair Squadron XH134 stop flying because of the expense?

I suppose it would still be cheaper than 558 but I'm not convinced any other a/c will have the appeal to Joe Public that a Vulcan did.

Why on earth would something so simple and mundane as 'expense' stop VTTS ;)

Haha, knew you couldn't resist!

How is WK163 categorised by the CAA, is it complex or intermediate? I dare say less to run than 558 but wouldn't want to bet money on easy to fund.

I believe WK163's categorisation is as follows:-

And.... if there's any doubt it may be in danger of not being achieved.... emails will be sent warning of plagues of locusts and pestilences of frogs unless we pledge quantities of Bisto forthwith ....

Oh damn ..... ;)

Bisto browns - Bisto seasons - Bisto thickens - all in one go ......so

Pass the gravy :p :) :))

We have just issued two dedicated shares that will not only cover the purchase of the aircraft and all the spares, but also cover the investigations already made and then the dismantling, transport and re-assembly.

This initial work is estimated to come to over £100,000 and will be covered by support of £15 and £30 shares of the cost. Each share supported will be honoured with a share certificate, dedicated in either your own name, that of a relative, friend or in memoriam of a loved one.

After this, further inspection work and a project definition process will need to be established to look at projected costs and timescales.

Once the restoration process and budget is established, a Pledge campaign will be announced when project goals are defined and are of assured viability before further work begins. This is exactly how we successfully funded the vital wing modification work on Vulcan XH558.

You can donate to this project now with the support of shares in the survey work already carried out, the initial costs to purchase the aircraft and spares, then the costs to transport her to Doncaster for a deeper inspection and project scoping which will determine the restoration work needed and the full costs.

BRONZE LEVEL - £63 or above: Supporters at this level will receive not only a certificate, but a car sticker showing your support, together with an A3 picture of WK163 that you can frame or display as desired.

SILVER LEVEL - £163 or above: Receives the rewards detailed above plus a detailed cut-away diagram of a Canberra,* showing the structure and major components, together with an A5 history booklet.*

GOLD LEVEL - £350 or above: Receives all of the above, plus an invitation for two people to attend a special Canberra event in the hangar.*
