The Lightning Boys of F.6.XR724

I nipped over to Binbrook this sunday to get some "Lightning Therapy" with the
restoration team of XR724,very enjoyable.

They allowed me to "Pester them" with daft questions climb over the aircraft and sit in
the cockpit....whoopee, thanks lads for a great day,
I was asked not to post full shots of her as they want more visitors, and i respect the request,

I drove home via the middle section of the station, Sorry i did...it's getting in a bad state
in some areas, so sad to see this great RAF station go to ruin,

I was there in the late 90s when I was detached for 3mths first helping getting things ready and then spending 6 weeks in Cyprus with 5 Sqn on an APC. It's sad to see it so run down.

I didn't realise you could go to see 724, do have details? they need to advertise it more on the aviation fora.

They do intend to Run her engines could be this year, Visits are welcome via their

There will be no fast taxi runs...the airfield owners have sold the runways/taxi pan
areas to a demolition contractor, she's marooned on her plot surrounded by piles
of hard core & reinforcing steel.

When they fire her up I just hope she (Blows the contractors F......ing eardrums out)...!

As the webmaster for the Lightning Association website and thought it would be good to update folks on progress with XR724, they now have a Facebook page where the engineering updates are posted. Nothing much has been done to progress putting the jet back in one piece, due to the current virus restrictions. But a new start has been made recently. https://www.facebook.com/XR724/
