NOT in MY sights

Since the hard weather hit us I've been feeding the birds in the backgarden with seeds and peanuts instead of just the leftover bread crusts. The regular House Sparrows didn't take long to get stuck in.

A very wary Wood Pigeon appeared on the TV aerial of a nearby house and gradually gained the confidence to come in for a closer look.

He couldn't seem to work out that he wasn't going to be able to feed like the smaller birds.

Then, all of a sudden, the penny dropped and he spent most of the early afternoon picking up the bits that the other birds had dropped upon the ground. His favourite was the peanuts.

I hate wood pigeons. I have been feeding the local small birds for years and we get regular visitors to the various feeding stations but there are at least 4 wood pigeons that will sit stuffing themselves at the bird tables ALL DAY -unless I see them. My previous next door neighbour was a local copper and he used to use his shotgun on the wood pigeons (loaded with what I am not sure) but they certainly got the message.

I don't however mind the two families of squirrels that visit the one table as they just seem to take what they immediately want and bury it somewhere nearby.

The robins are the best visitors though as they are so tame. They will sit on the decking furniture waiting for me to load up the feeders just a metre or so away..
