Astounding Tennis

Postby Spitfire » Wed Jun 23, 2010 9:33 pm

This needs its own thread ........ Football - 90 minutes - nambies ;)

Total Respect to Mahut & Isner .... 59 games all - in the final set ....bad light stopped play this evening ....a world record in nearly every statistic.

They played all 4 sets last night - then today they started the 5th set at 2pm and played ALL day - nearly 7 hours - and its still not resolved.

Thats one set of 118 games B-)

Gentlemen you are amazing - I salute your fitness your mental determination and your sheer ability

Well I thought it was a brilliant match, I just hope they get on with it and someone wins quickly tomorrow =))

I don't normally watch tennis, but I do watch Wimbledon sometimes.

These two chaps have to be two of the fittest blokes in all sport, amazing :ymapplause: :ymapplause:
Bet they sleep well tonight =)) Isner looked like he was going to fall asleep standing up :))

Tomorrow there will be a result as you well know .... but, young man, are you not in the least bit mindful of the sheer athletic ability of these 2 men against those over paid football prima donnas ..... to play at the very top of your game hour after hour for that long is just astounding. Much as it pains me to use this much over used word I believe this may even border on 'awesome' :p :D

Do you not see the irony of Rooney being brought off because he's 'not quite fit' and getting a 'knock' on the ankle after only 70 minutes or so. These 2 athletes play gruelling high paced tennis - serving consistently at over 120 mph - and do that for a whole working day :-o :-o They were playing an hour before England kicked off - and continued through their game and then played over 4 hours more :ymapplause:

I'm not a tennis player or watcher - I don't have any particular axe to grind with any physical 'sport' - but this achievement is just incredible and I think its worthy of the mention with all this tosh and piffle being talked about footballers ;) :D :p

I say chaps, does anybody fancy getting out the old wooden rackets and going over to the courts for a knock about?

If we start early enough we could be finished in time for supper! ;)

So have a late breakfast or an early lunch, maybe even nip up to Coningsby for a burger, I am lead to believe another correspondent with new camera equipment may be in that area too!

The scoring in tennis is ludicrous,it's the only game I know where you can win more games/points than your opponent and still end up the loser :-o
