Hi All
On a trip to the RAF Museum at Cosford yesterday I had a nice surprise to find the three recently delivered World War One Aircraft now on display.
Two of them are Replicas and one is original. So here they are each in turn.
Bristol M.1c C4994 (replica)
This Aircraft was First flown 21 June 1987 by John Lewis the Rolls-Royce test and display pilot from Hucknall airfield. The Aircraft then made two further flights of 20 minutes and 30 minutes duration.CoA expired 12 August 1987 and was sold to the RAF Museum the following week. She was delivered to Hendon 12 December 1989 and remained there on public display until being moved to her new permanent home at Cosford in late 2014.
Sopwith Strutter A8226 (replica)
This Aircraft was built to the original drawings and first flew September 1980.The Aircraft only flew once again this also being in Sept 1980.She was sold to the RAF Museum in early 1981 and she remained there on public display until being moved to Cosford in late 2014.
Sopwith Pup 9213M
Built by Sopwith Aviation Co at Kingston upon Thames, but delivered from Brooklands. One of a batch of 20 aircraft built in 1916. First flew 8 Sept 1916 and flew many different missions through out the First World War.The Aircraft was struck of Charge 23 Feb 1918 so this Aircraft never saw service with the RAF but all with the RFC! After an extensive rebuild after being discovered again in 1959 she flew again in 1973. She flew again until 1976 and the CoA expired in 1978.Post flying career Registration was not cancelled until October 1984 she was finally donated to Hendon in 1998.The Aircraft then moved to Cosford in late 2014 and will be 100 years old in 2016.
A few shots of Harrier GR9 ZG477
Another Classic and very important Aircraft has also gone back on display at Cosford after a long time in storage Boulton Paul sea Balliol T21 WL732.
This Aircraft was first flight tested from Pendeford Wolverhampton 30 June 1954. She was moved to RNAS Lossiemouth Sept 1957 and served there until 1964 when she was moved to Boscombe Down and was used for training.1965 used as a chase aircraft. Her last flight was 7 February 1969 to RAF Coltishall. She was then transferred to Cosford November 1979 and has remained there ever since.
This is a rare photo of a Sea Balliol in service. This one is WL715 and served on HMS Triumph 1953-55.
Thanks for looking and I hope you find these posts interesting.
Cheers
