Airbase Coventry

Postby Leebee0 » Sat Jun 21, 2014 9:52 pm

Hi all

Went along to Coventry today to see the Meteor fly which is up currently from the main site at Newquay. Whist there had a good look around the Coventry site for Airbase which has recently re opened to the public.

What a fantastic site it is. Now the maintenance site for airbase and forward operating base for the fleet if Aircraft are booked to fly further North. Two of the fleets current flyers from Newquay were in attendance Gloster Meteor WA591 which was taking part in 'Wartime in the Vale' at Evesham and De Havilland Venom FB50 WR470 which is taking part in the Weston Air Show tomorrow Afternoon.

With free entry to the site this place is a must visit and as you will see by my pics below some of the reasons you need to visit.

English Electric Canberra WK163

Hidden away at the back of the main Hanger there she was World Record Breaking WK163. So the latest on her is she is slowly being worked on booming back together in prep for her to fly again sometime in 2016 well thats the aim anyway. She now has 5 engines that were purchased from the USA and although she looks a long way off being ready to fly they are getting there. So now you know!

As WR470 is tucked away ready for tomorrows Weston Flights that brought to an end a great day. Having visited both Newquay and Coventry in the last month Airbase is very much alive and well despite what some maybe saying. The best way though is to see for yourself Newquay is open daily with a £10 entry fee and Coventry is open every weekend and entry is free.

Hope you enjoyed these pics

Cheers

Lee.
