XM603-Woodford

Postby Ray C » Sun Jan 05, 2014 7:12 pm

Decided to check out another golf driving range on friday morning, From it's location i suspected the range
was quite near Woodford airfield....I was right...! Good job i took my camera with a "fixed 500mm lens,
Weather was dull with a mod wind.

The "Old Girl" still looks grubby & forgotten in her new position...with no news or activity recently.

This is the former fire starion..now to be the proposed Avro Heritage cent...603 is just to the
right out of shot.
[*]Image

Tower looks lost amongst the inactivity...such a shame & waste.

Yes things went very quiet after the announcement 603 was going to be moved and get some TLC - keep snooping for us Ray.

This reads very good...But i suspect the Heritage centre will not happen this
year...& 603 needs attention "Now"...Will she not fit in the hangers near her on the
south east side for the time being...? :(

It was in the planning application ...

A Heritage Assessment to identify the significance of heritage assets on and near the site and a geophysical survey to detect sub-surface archaeological Assets has been carried out. Mitigation measures have been identified which
relate to:
1 Protecting the settings of nearby Listed Buildings;
2 Reflecting the history of the aviation use of the site in the layout of the development; and,
3 Retaining the Vulcan Bomber on-site in close association with the (re-sited) Heritage Centre.

Strangely yesterday I visited the Adlington golf driving range , it's location is N/East & about
a quarter of a mile from 603 & the former fire station with a clear view.

I stood watching for 5-10 mins but could see no activity currently, that said it's reported work
should start from August-Feb 2015, rest assured Sentinel Ray is never that far away... ;)

By the way my golf practice session was "Crap"...... ~x(
