Absurd Planning Proposal puts Wellesbourne Airfield at Risk

Postby Ramshornvortex » Sat Mar 30, 2013 10:20 pm

STOP PRESS WELLESBOURNE EGBW UNDER THREAT

Yet again another airfield is under threat because of a proposed development that includes 99 houses being built on the extended centreline to RWY36/18. Full details are available by following the link below...

To object to the proposal please go to http://apps.stratford.gov.uk/eplanning/, type in the application number which is 13/00510/OUT click "search" and click on the comment button. There is no requirement to set up a user name and password.

Wellesbourne airfield needs your help and time is running out. The closing date for objections is Tuesday 09/04/2013.

The more people that object the better the chances of stopping this stupid proposal - even though commonsense doesn't count for much in the crazy new world of government planning policy.

Thank you,

Charles, what would you like us to say. I'm asking as I'm not local to you and my comments would not likely be appropriate without some local guidance.

Here are some points that you might want to raise in objection:

The application does not even mention the close proximity of the housing to the active runway, although it is clearly material.
It is so close to the extended centre line that the residents would be affected by arrivals and departures with the associated inevitable noise, there being no room so close to the end of the runway for noise abatement procedures.
The development is underneath the busy helicopter route to the south east.
If the application was to succeed it is inevitable that in time restrictions would be made to flying activity following complaints by those people stupid enough to buy a house within a few hundred feet of the end of a busy runway.
This historic wartime, family run, airfield is regarded highly by the general aviation world and its demise would be catastrophic.
A large number of aviation businesses depend on the airfield for their survival as well as the Café, Ambulance service. XM655 MaPS, Museum and all the subsequent employees.

Objection raised, let's hope it dies quietly!

I've just had notification of amended plans to take into account the runway exclusion area.

Amended housing plan:
http://apps.stratford.gov.uk/eplanning/AppDetail.aspx?appkey=MJ6NQWPM00C00
If it doesn't appear click on the link on the left-hand side of the page ('Amended Plan')

They have made a marginal change - I don't think it is enough.

Is this a new government strategy....? Solve the housing problem by building
on airfields...? Woodford-Wellesbourne and I was told at weekend some of Elvington
could be under review by York council.....bring in Birth Control. :YMTONGUE:

The redevelopment of Panshangar is still being fought too, after the council earmarked it for housing under noses of the operators!

Well if that goes ahead then they want their heads looking at. When XM655 runs her engines they will literally shake the very foundations these houses will be standing on.Wellesbourne airfield is owned by the same family but different members own different bits of it, so that's maybe why the build is within the airfield boundary due to a member of the family selling up to the highest bidder. ~x( :(

The development is outside the airfield boundary, the other side (south) of Loxley Road.

This article is only reporting the planning officer's recommendation. The council planning committee meet during the coming week.
