It sort of has been in care and maintenance for ages, other than exercises etc there isn't that much flying in and out.
Still a shame though on the job losses.

Does that count as Stereo Linkage?

A bit more on this here.

http://www.rafcte.com/airshow/Newsroom/news/USAFE_RESTRUCTURES_AIR_TATTOO_HOME

False alarm guys, phew!! So It's not going to close ... just being Restructured. Yeah right ...

At least the guys ( and girls ) can feel a bit happier that they haven't been sacked but have just been "Restructured" out of a job. :(

Don'tya just love euphemisms?

So might not be quite so bad as it
sounded initially......

Here in Maine we just lost a Naval
Air Station (Brunswick) which was
a total pullout and abandon. That
leaves us with no military installations
except for Air Guard, Army Guard and
Coast Guard. Very sad all around.....

Post MOD Edit Comment:

Things like this are never good, but there
will still be the same job to do and the same
amount of work. It does sound as if some of
the Fairford civilian workers will be offered
the chance to re-locate to one of the other
installations. Some jobs will be unaffected
because everything still needs to be kept in
good shape. RIAT is safe. Losing a Finger
to the Axe is better than losing a HAND or
an ARM.........
