The Last Remaining Dam Buster....

Postby Mayfly » Tue Aug 04, 2015 8:48 am

...Pilot, Les Munro has died in New Zealand.

As well as serving in 617 Sqn and various other Squandrons he also commanded 1690 Bomber Defence Training Flight.

This was made up of Spitfires and Martinets and provided fighter affiliation training for 5 Group and moved from RAF Scampton to RAF Metheringham in 1944.

RIP Sir and thank you.
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

An amazing man: ... ed-96.html

Earlier this year he sold all his medals to help pay for the upkeep of the Bomber Command Memorial in London.

All the Pilots have now died and there are now only two crew members of the 'Dam Busters' remaining:
- George 'Johnny' Johnson (92) and Canadian, Fred Sutherland.
