Bad news for the Sea Vixen

Postby Olicat » Thu Apr 05, 2012 4:44 pm

This afternoon the Sea Vixen went for a test flight (first of 2012 i believe) , upon arrival back at Hurn the nose gear collapsed. The pilot got out and is ok.

Bournemouth Airport closed for the next 2 hours though.
Fly fast jets and/or C130s over my house please, I'm bored!

Oops :(. Hope the damage isn't great, and it is flying again soon. Glad the pilot is OK.

Apparently the left gear collapsed, but it had droptanks and skidded to a halt on them which could have saved the aircraft. We'll see what happens.

Funny you should mention that, I was supposed to be going to watch it but I thought 'nah the weathers rubbish, it won't fly'

From that pic it looks like the Drop tanks took most of the impact, which I suppose is a good thing since the fuselage will be less damaged.
