The report has changed since I looked. I take it then there were 2 incidents? 1 where the pilot walked away as per the first link and the 2nd that killed the pilot as well spectators.

Awful incident. I have looked at the video over and over, I find it strange that this aircraft is plunging from the sky at the angle it is and away from the main race circuit. I know there will be many theories as to why it has happened.

RIP to all, sad, sad day.

D4th, can you comment later, I've always thought Reno had a very good safety record!

R.I.P :(.
This is the 2nd Mustang to be lost this year, and both of them did not catch fire. They must have a very sturdy fuel cell on them.

I've looked around the net, and the
general opinion seems to be that it
was a control surface issue........

Very sudden, it seems, but I do have
to say things could have been far worse!

Accidents are inevitable, but still sad
when they happen......

More as I find out;

Unfortunately it appears not, taken from BBC web "There have been safety concerns in the past, with four pilots killed in 2007 and 2008."

Very sad

The problem here isn't so much the
pilots -- they know what the dangers
are -- it is the spectators killed and
injured.

There will be fallout from this I am sure.

sorry but this is very definately the worst year I remember for airshow accidents period, there has been another one this time involving a T-28 of the Trojan Horsemen

Twenty pilots have been lost since the
Reno Races started almost 50 years ago
in 1964, but this is the first case of deaths
and injuries on the ground.

The pilots are aware of the risks involved.

I suspect this might well be the end of it........

Still sorting-out my feelings.

Edit for correct year:::::::

Weather crap again here but I didn't feel like flying anyway..............just had a shiver! So sad for those lost and their families.

I'm okay, Magsie, just still reeling
from the tragic nature of the whole
thing......

In some ways, Reno was/is an anachronism
anyhow, so maybe its time has come....

Even so, the tragedy itself is hard to take....

Well, it IS the "Unlimited" Class......

Really not a P-51 Mustang any longer.......

Oh, and thanks to everyone for your
concern about this!!!!!!!
