Hi all, any confirmation on this arrival? Can't seem to find any other mention anywhere.

Will head over there soon anyway, it's a nice crisp morning for a stroll.

Cheers

It started to really cloud over after midday, so I kind of thought it might divert.

Was long gone from Brunty by 2 though, would have missed it. Might try to get over tomorrow.

Transaero have 2 more 743's, wonder if they will join these 2 already here.

Postby Sickbag_andy » Fri Nov 30, 2012 8:57 pm

It should have arrived today for scrapping but got a 24 hour reprieve:

If anyone gets more up to date info on the 747 to Brunty, would really appreciate a pm or quick post here.

I am local but need a little bit of time to get transport.

Thanks in advance for any help and to all who take time to inform about these events that would otherwise go unnoticed by those of us not in the know. Cheers!

This may be another reason why XH558 might not relocate here. :( Noise is becoming a problem at a lot of venues..

Not really, there's no real objection to the aircraft noise.

If anyone's near to Mildenhall today.

NASA's WB-57 is due about 13:45

Too far for me sadly :(

Be tough luck anyway. The NIMBY's recent petition was thrown out by the local council and DW was granted PERMANENT planning permission to stage as many noisy events as he likes

Anyone have an educated guess as to
how many people are employed by
Mister Walton?

I would guess the figures listed in
the news article might be just a tiny
bit conservative.....

There would also be a nice ripple
effect in Bruntingthorpe for goods
and services obtained locally....

Not to mention all the establishments
where those Walton paychecks/ques
are spent!

And don't forget all the people who
come to Brunty for CWJ and other
events and the money they spend
while they're there....

I would say the Council knows which
side its bread is buttered on ;)

Well, Bruntingthorpe village itself only has one place to spend any money and that's the Pub :) The nearest general store is, probably, Countesthorpe which is a 10 minute drive away. I know the chippy does well there with the brunty faithful.

I would say that the amount employed by C. Wlaton Ltd. is probably close to what it says in the article, BUT, there are a lot of other businesses up there. There's probably more like 2-300 people that work there every day. Not to mention the countless visitors/deliveries that are on site at any given time.

It can be quite hectic up there at times :)

I'll bet DW likes hectic ;)

Certainly better than the opposite!

Oh, and I was referring of course
to the Greater Bruntingthorpe
Metropolitan Region :p

Yes, I'm sure the crofters, woodsmen and weirdos that lurk in the bushes (i.e. Gregg) around Bruntingthorpe, see the economic benefit of such a large enterprise :D

How the hell do you pronounce Countesthorpe? What I have in my head can't be printed.

Countess Thorpe

The name Countesthorpe originates from the 11th century when the area was part of the marriage dowry of the Countess Judith niece of William the Conqueror. The 'thorpe' part of the name is from the gothic meaning of 'land'.
